New Year's 2010

Strange as it sounds, I and three friends decided to head 5 hours NORTH to celebrate the end of 2010. It was more an effort to get away from it all via a large van from the 80's and ski, hike and, well, get closer to Canada. Who doesn't want to get closer to Canada anyway?

View from our cabin deck, New Year´s Day morning. Snow eeeeeeeeeeeeeverywhere. That's our 80's G-ride in front.  Nothing like traveling luxury style

Friend Andy doing some reading in our cabin...lots of time to do that too, along with the skiing and hiking

Prepping for a good day in the snow.  Gotta gear up if you want to be outside for more than 5 minutes.

Prepping for the big ski.  The guy on my left is my good friend Mike Corial.  Next to Mike is Meggan, and next her is her boyfriend Andy.  All are from the Running Club.

Jan 2...much clearer....this is where we skied the day before.  It´s a lake in the summer, and in the winter, it's, well, a frozen lake.

Fascinating snowdrifts. They were like little frozen ice feathers...yes, I'm saying little feathers because I don't know how else to explain them.  I also wanted to see how well my new camera took close up pictures.
I love this photo.....This is Mike standing outside Andy´s van. We are about halfway across the frozen lake, on an ice road....yep, driving right across a frozen lake. Pretty cool.

"Action shot" from inside the van.  No matter how many vehicles you see speeding across a frozen lake, there is a tiny persistant voice that is screaming "Any second and we're ice fishing on the lake floor!!!!!"

A friend of Meggan´s invited us to ski the trails around her uncle's house near the town where we were staying. These photos don't do it enough justice, but to be able to ski through woods miles away from anyone else is pretty nice.  Lots of fresh power too.

Here we are at the snow park on Sunday.  This was really cool.......they take cross country sking so seriously they'll groom close to a hundred of miles of trails on a mountain, and off you go.  We probably skied about 15 miles that day.

Group self portrait at the ski park.

New Year´s Eve, we went for it.  Straight to the local casino where legendary 80's rock band Great White was playing a free show!  You know what....it still wasn't worth it!!!  But, the rest of the weekend was great.  Potentially going back in the summer to enjoy the outdoors in warmer temps.....
